EMC News – Quinte West – Randy and Diana McPherson have owned and operated Grills Orchards for the past 12 years. But with recessionary spending hitting the markets, they were feeling the pinch. “We were busy from September to Christmas,” says Diana, “but when the recession hit, people were buying less.”
One of their two sons, Justin, came up with the idea to apply for funding to diversify and expand. He wrote up a proposal for the Rural Economic Development Program. MPP Lou Rinaldi showed up on Monday, March 8, with the announcement that Grills Orchards will receive $57,000 for this initiative.
