Chisholm Lumber is a fully integrated forest products operation. W.F. Chisholm acquired the Roslin mill-site property on the banks of the Moira River in 1857.  A flour/feed mill and sawmill was created. Since then six generations of the Chisholm family have been involved in its operation. Their mandate is to “produce the best lumber we can, from a sustainable supply of good quality saw-logs. By doing the right thing today, we’re growing forests for tomorrow.

Today at the main 25 acre site at Roslin, Ontario, Chisholm Lumber manufacturers hardwood and softwood lumber from two modern sawmills. Their primary bandmill was completely updated in August 2012 – outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment including a new carriage and scanning system to help increase lumber quality, yield, grade and capacity. The bulk of their hardwood production is sent to the wholesale division Chisholm Forest Corp. in Tweed, Ontario. The bulk of the softwood production is re-manufactured at their planing mill and sold through their retail lumber yard division in Roslin – Chisholm TimBrMart. The Roslin mill site has  the re-saw operation, the planing mill, Pendu Log Home, Chisholm TimBrMart Lumber Yard, the sawdust, shavings wood chip buildings and numerous large scale lumber storage sheds. Chisholm Forest Management is based at the Roslin Mill.

Chisholm Lumber is dedicated to sustainable forestry. All of their logs come from managed, sustainably harvested forests where we have been harvesting and buying logs in Ontario for over 150 years. The Sawmill Division- Chisholm’s Roslin Ltd. is a member of both the Bancroft Minden and Mazinaw Lanark SFLs (Sustainable Forest Licences) and subsequently has numerous Crown timber allocations – this is where the vast majority of our logs derive. All SFL properties in Ontario are certified by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). As a primary user of wood, Chisholm Lumber has recognized the importance of being good forest stewards. To help private woodlot owners, Chisholm’s offers a comprehensive Forest Management Service. They provide provincially certified tree markers, forest management prescriptions written by members of the Professional Foresters Association, markets for all forest products and forest operations supervision. Most importantly, we provide peace of mind for landowners who know that the job will be done right. We also work with area loggers by providing forest management services to help them do a better job in the forest.

The company’s dry kiln wholesale division is located at Industrial Park Road in Tweed, ON. In 2004, the dry kilns were destroyed by fire. New state-of-the-art kilns were opened in early 2005. The Nardi kilns have a 100,000 BF capacity. The innovative and energy efficient heating system runs off 95% biomass (sawdust/shavings from our sawmill/planing mill). The backup 5% runs off an oil heating system. The kilns dry both hardwood and softwood lumber from our sawmill division Chisholm Roslin Ltd. Their core products – Kiln Dried Hardwoods – are sold mainly in the Ontario, Quebec and Northeastern U.S. markets. The dry kilns are also certified for Heat Treating.

Excellence in construction and service are pillars of the Chisholm Lumber Design Build name. The company is registered as a Tarion Warranty Builder and offers a full service, high quality experience – from initial design to fully complete projects. They are involved in building custom homes, timber frames, log homes and many other construction projects such as additions, garages and decks. The long-term objective of this division is to incorporate green technology in the building process to the maximum extent possible.
