Harvest Hastings promotes sustainable agriculture and forestry, our creative rural communities, and local food, wood, and other products produced from the land in Hastings County (from North Hastings down to Belleville and Quinte West). For the month of October, we will highlight producers based in North Hastings – Maynooth, Bancroft, Coe Hill, Bannockburn, etc… If you are a producer in the North, we’d love to hear about what you’re up to! New funding opportunities!
Improving Ontario’s Agri-Food Businesses Productivity — The governments of Canada and Ontario are investing up to $3 million to help Ontario food, beverage and other agri-food businesses improve the productivity of their operations. This funding will make the sector more competitive by helping businesses purchase new equipment, adopt innovative technologies, and automate processes. Find out more information here.
Ontario Tourism Recovery Program (OTRP) will support eligible tourism businesses that have been hardest hit by COVID-19. Eligible activities Include farm-, agriculture-, and horticulture-based businesses that provide entertainment, education, or active participation in the activities of the farm or operation. This may include guided interpretive tours, culinary interpretive experiences, hands-on activities, mazes, animal rides/petting barns, and wagon/sleigh rides. Find out more information here.

OMAFRA’s first Teeny Tiny Summit of the year is now open and will be taking place on October 13. Teeny Tiny Summits share practical examples, lessons learned and community economic development tactics that are scale appropriate for Ontario’s smallest communities. You won’t want to miss Tareq Hadhad, from Peace by Chocolate, as the keynote speaker. The theme of their first session is Welcoming Newcomers in Teeny Tiny Places.
