“Local Food Week…is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the bounty of fresh, healthy food grown, produced and processed right here in Ontario. Farmers work year-round to grow and produce fresh, safe and affordable food for all Ontarians to enjoy. The Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) encourages everyone to take a moment next week to pause and celebrate the strong, reliable and dynamic industry that is the agri-food sector in Ontario.” ~ Crispin Colvin, Executive Member, Ontario Federation of Agriculture

And the winners are..

Thanks so much to everyone who submitted their photos to our cover photo contest! We were amazed by the beauty and bounty of Hastings County that was shared! It was very hard for the Board to choose the winning photo, but we finally agreed on the images below for the front cover (Chicory Wild) and back cover (Farm Fresh Photography). Visit their Instagram pages by clicking on the address at the bottom of their photos. Watch for the 2021 Harvest Hastings magazine, featuring articles, recipes, and member, product and market directories, coming in June!

TERRITORIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Harvest Hastings would like to acknowledge and honour the land on which we reside and occupy as part of the traditional territories of the the Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and the Anishinaabe people. We acknowledge our obligation to respect, honour, and sustain these lands and the natural resources contained within.

Thanks to the Ecological Farmers’ Association of Ontario for sharing the following call to action on their Facebook page:

Friends, there are no words to describe the anger and sorrow that is rippling across this land right now after recent revelations of the atrocities that occurred in [what is now known as] Kamloops. As an organization with a focus on farming, we wanted to remind you that although you may feel helpless as a settler, there are ways you can take responsibility for your role on this land. Of course, elevate indigenous voices. Absolutely share information. And definitely consider more concrete actions, as well.
Here is a great list of organizations you can support, if you have the means to do so:
Tiny House Warriors
Indigenous Food Sovereignty Network
Sovereign Seeds
Indigenous Climate Action
Indian Residential School Survivors
Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance – NAFSA
Kenhteke Seed Sanctuary and Learning Centre
Akwesasne Freedom School
Each of these organizations takes donations. Each deserves to be amplified. Please share.
