Lynn Davis and Debbie Marshall run Windy Wold Farm in the hills south of Maple Leaf. The Davis family have farmed in Hastings Highlands since the mid nineteenth century and Lynn is the fourth generation Davis on the farm. The farm is named “Windy Wold Farm” – wold being an old English name for a hill. Although the land is flat and the soil is mostly free of stone, there are challenges. Davis has to lime the soil to get the right pH as the soil is too acid without liming. The lime he uses comes all the way from Quebec. They rear sheep and cattle on the farm and grow hay, grain and corn for themselves with hay for sale to horse and cattle farmers. They keep North Country Cheviot sheep and a few Russian Romanovs and have a small beef cow calf operation.
